Over Laying Images Using Photoshop

Combining two or more images using programs such as Photoshop is a technique that many artists use today in pieces of their work. I think that this is a simple technique that can look very effective if it isn't over-complicated or done in a few minutes. I found two examples of Overlaying on the internet and I have placed them to the left of this text. I think that they are both very good representations of the technique, and you can clearly see the two different images that the artists have used to overlay together. With the first piece (Glitter), I really like how you can see sparkles where the light has caught the glitter at a certain angle and resulted in a flicker of shiny light. I also like how the model is pulling quite a miserable face, as I feel it contrasts well with the use of Glitter, the girl looks sad, but the Glitter is sparking and uplifting. With the second image, I really like the landscape shot that the artist has used, I just find these kinds of shots so interesting to look at. I really especially like how the overlay makes it look like the model's face is made from trees, and the long branches stand out and contrast against the model's pale skin tone. And finally, I really like the feeling of calmness and tranquillity this piece gives off to the viewer.I have created several images using this technique and I am very happy with the outcome.

For some overlay work, I used an image of myself (taken by Beth) and an image of Beth that I took. I have shown the steps that I went through to get my final image. As the images are quite Bright and the Contrast is presented well between me and Beth and the White Background, I liked how the overlay turned out. We both posed in a similar way for the images, maybe the overlay would be more effective however if we both stood in a different pose, that in some way linked with eachother to make a more fitting image. Befoer I joined the images, I adjsted the Curves of the photos to make them more clearer and brighter, and to also slightly intensify the contrast between us and the Background.

I conducted a miniture shoot to collect some images of my model, Beth ready to experiement with the Basic Overlaying Technique. The shoot took place in the studio, and I managed to get a select range of shots that suited the editing task that I had planned to go through with. I wanted to create the impression that Beth's inner personality could be shown in the images due to the Overlaying. I have displayed my three attempts below the contact sheet. I converted the images to Black and White in order to increase the intensity and mystery of the images. For a first attempt, I am happy with the overall outcome of the experimentation. However, I would like to improve the Grainy effect that my second image has to improve the presentation of the work. Also, I would have preferred to take my images on a lighter background to result in a more clear and even finish.
