John William Keedy
John William Keedy is an American Photographer who creates Art aimed at examining the concepts of Personal Identity and Normalcy and takes inspiration from those who are around him. John began showing interest in Photography from a very young age thanks to his father, William Keedy; a highly regarded Photographer. As John is quite a young Photographer, I think it is easier for someone of my age to relate to his work, and be able to understand the concepts he focuses on in his images. He is best known for his 'It's Hardly Noticeable' range of images (which focus on issues regarding Anxiety) and 'Protean Frames', a project that are digital montages of Self Portraits. I especially like how modern John's work is, and his use of basic equipment such as Chalk and Jigsaw Puzzles. I believe that John is a Narrative Photographer as he creates stories to show within his work, and this adds to the interaction his work can trigger amongst the audience who are looking at the range of images.
These are a range of images taken from John's It's Hardly Noticeable range. The images "explores the world of a character who navigates living with an unspecified anxiety-based mental illness. He negotiates situations constructed to highlight the impacts and implications of his differences on his thoughts and behaviors, and by doing so raises question of normalcy". As someone who suffers with issues around Anxiety everyday, I believe that this range of images represent the mental illness perfectly and certainly do question if it is normal or not. I like how the images are taken around everyday places, as this adds to the realism of the images and most of them look like John has just walked up to them and photographed the scene and walked off straight after. The images made me think quite a bit to try and think of what could be going on, and I really like how John's images provoke your thoughts to create a story line in your head. People who have maybe being lucky enough to not experience severe anxiety may not see what affect this could have on someone, they may just see a bunch of images that hold very little meaning.
